REAL SAILOR SONGS
Collected and Edited by John Ashton, author of "A Century of Ballads," and "Romances of Chivalry,", &c., &c.,
with two hundred illustrations, London, 1891.

Our reprint also includes a facsimile of an original sailor's hand-bill from the 18th century. These were sold to sailor's on the wharves and jetties of early London. These are only the words to the songs; there is no music here, but our small reprint is easy to carry to those chantey fests and enable you to startle your friends with some really obscure songs. The dedicated chantey singer will delight in this new source of material and find it fairly easy to put some of the songs to music of his/her own devising. There are 129 songs in this collection, divided into: Sea Fights; Press Gang; Disaster; Ashore; Love; and Miscellaneous. First published in 1894.

SEA SONGS
by Charles Dibdin
Collected and Arranged with a Memoir by T. Dibdin
with twelve illustrations by George Cruikshank

Now here's a musical masterwork! Charles Dibdin was born in the village of Dibdin near Southampton in the year 1745 and died in London in 1814. In those 69 years he produced a prodigious number of sea songs and other war songs. This volume contains the sea songs. It is absolutely choc-a-block. We have counted 435 but we may have missed a few! These also include a few by each of his descendants; T. Dibdin, and C. Dibdin, Jun., as well as a short collection of Miscellaneous National Songs. With Dibdin and Ashton in your pockets you will never be at a loss again at any chantey fest! Cruikshank's illustrations by the way are superb! Our edition published in 1914.
